Last of the Grey Knights

I finished the last of the grey knights today. The banner turned out quite differently to what I had imagined but I think it works. Otherwise there is really not muck to say about the model. The sword/flamer arm still looks a bit odd, but that was a carry over piece from the plasma gun guy. I happy with the grey metallics, it is not to shiny.
I am still to tiered to do any serious work on any of the big projects. I am trying to get something done to the Hell Lord and I am dreaming of having time and energy enough to do something to Opus. Hope fully the holiday season will offer some rest. At least I should try to finish the last of the Myrmidon Walkers.

Grey Knights update

I usually do not go back to a model that did not turn out as I had hoped, instead I tend to build a new one and hope that it will be better the second time around. However, the Grey knights that I bought a while back was never meant to be a large number of models, I just got inspired when the Lord Inquisitor trailer came up. I made a plasma carrying guy with a flamer on the other hand and a short blade. It all looked better in my head than what the model turned out to be. So I decided , that since I don't have or plan top have more than this squad of Grey Knights I might as well fix it. So I removed the flamer and replaced it with a power fist. At the same time I assembled the last two remaining models, a sergeant and the banner man. The sergeant got painted together with the replacement arm, the banner man will be up next. I might by more boxes of grey knight for the parts in the future and as such might end up with more of these guys any way. We will see.

Fallen Dark Angel terminator captain and heavy weapon Grey knight

The other day I just played around with some unused Grey Knight and Death wing models. I got the idea to make a Fallen Dark angel captain using one of the great sword from the Grey knight kit. I also gave him a cloak of "power sensors" from the knight flails. Once I had done that I got the idea to stick the plasma canon from the Death wing set onto a grey knight with one of the special weapons from that kit. I have no idea if Grey Knights actually can have heavy weapons, but I doubt it as there are no normal heavy weapons on the sprues. Well I made one any way. For some reason I decided to give him a short sword in the other hand as well as the flamer type weapon...  I think it looked better in my head then in reality.

Well I did some painting. The Fallen dark angel turned out a bit grey, not as black as the rest of them but I think I will leave him lake this. I could try to add some more black was or some black in but the risk is that I will have to re do the armour if I fail and I do not want to repaint the rest of the model as it took me two nights to paint.
In contrast to this the grey knight only took two to three hours to do. Apart from the slightly funky build it turned out ok.

Scorpion update and another GK

Just a short update. Just got back from the last work trip before vacation so I have not manage that much. But I am work along on the Desert Scorpion. The legs soon has the base paint on, then it will be weathering and detailing. Since it is quite tedious to put in so much sand colour, I have to paint it in stages, one area at a time, I also work on some infantry models in-between. This time it is another Grey Knight. This one I built as a apothecary. I did not go for the traditional with work but kept to the grey metallics. Well that is it for now.

Grey Knigth, a homage...

Well...   the other day Erasmus Brosdau and his crew released a teaser for their upcoming CGI film, The Lord Inquisitor. This teaser features a Grey Knight arming up for action. As this is probably the best 40k CGI out there and I am eagerly awaiting the full animation I just had to do something as a homage to their efforts. The atmosphere in the teaser is so full that I just felt the urge to get me some Grey Knights and get painting. Well, after a quick, well actually not so quick as I got stuck discussing painting techniques, trip to the local hobby store, I am now the owner of a box with Grey Knight terminators. I have previously explored the true metal painting technique on my Juggernauts, where one tries to emulate the look of metal without using 2d techniques as NMM. I though that this would also suit the Grey Knights as it will give them a worn and dark feeling to them. So I started some rushed painting, I don't think the glue had cured before I stared painting, on a duel wielding Grey Knight. The rest of the squad will receive some more tender handling before paint. But I am happy with the paint if not the photos. The colours will just not transfer correctly. I am not to sure about the pose but it will have to do. There are more figures where that came from and I am not in the habit of redoing models...

As I already have a Grey Knigth squad from the 90th I also hade to take a group pic with the new and old models.

Grey Knights

I thought that I had to say something about Grey Knights now that the new codex is out. I have not looked in the codex, I don´t even own any of the new models but I have a squad of really old Grey knights terminators from the time when they first appeared in the Warhammer 40,000 compilation. These where in the old days of Rough trader when there was really hard stuff around. A grey night terminator squad where 1200 points.

They where all lv 4 psykers. For those of you who are not familiar with the old level psyker system theses are the max level which includes some rather special powers like temporal distort, stasis, change allegiance and telekinesis 4. Temporal distort gives the player a number of options such as altering the turn sequence or repeating any one turn sequence. If a sequence is repeated only the players models may act. =). Change allegiance allows the player to steal a unit from the opponent. Telekinesis allowed the psyker to lift and move objects equivalent to a large vehicle which could be used as projectiles causing strength 7 attack causing D10 wounds. In CC the grey night could expend psi points through the nemesis weapon to increase the strength and lower the armor save of the opponent. They could also deliver a Psychic blast that causes 2D6 wounds. Then you could take a lord for 600 points without extra equipment. So the models presented here where in their own time a 2000 point army. =) I don´t believe having a 6 man army is line with the current philosophy of GW .

Then I can not help to say something about the mega night or what it is called. I do like the model to some extent but I do not think it fits in with the fluff. If you need large battle machines you call in the mechanicum, you do not strap in your marine in a super exo-skeleton, but that is just my opinion. Then I do wounder why they put the extra pistons on the outside of the shoulders for...  they do not fit in.

Just to say something about the color scheme of the models. When I bout these models there was not official way to paint them so I choose to make them grey instead of the metallics of today. The shield and banners do however sadly reflect my age at the time and the way models where painted in the 90th. These models are not as detailed as the current ones but I like the Gothic look of the armor. I like the new grey night models, the details are superb and since they are plastic they offer some interesting modeling opportunities so I might have to get me some and paint them up. The question then is if I should make them in the the same color scheme as my old ones or if I should give the metallics a go, we will see. For now I will return to the fallen mechanicum and continue on the titans. I guess there will be an update on these later today once I do some detail painting on Unbearable Desire.
